How to obtain your RPAS Pilot Certification
The Adanced Pilot Certificate provides you the most flexibility for drone operations.
1. Take the Ground School
The initial step involves studying the Ground School course, which equips you with the necessary knowledge to undertake the official Transport Canada Basic or Advanced online exam.
2. Pass the Advanced Exam
The Transport Canada Small Advanced Online exam features 50 multiple-choice questions, with a 60-minute time limit and a passing score of 80%.
3. Pass the Flight review
This practical exam section requires you to show your drone operating skills in-person with a certified reviewer at our training center, lasting approximately 1 hour.
Categories of drone operations in Canada
In Canada, drone operations are categorized into basic and advanced types, each with its own set of rules. The category of operation is determined by factors such as the drone's weight, proximity to bystanders, and airspace rules. The same rules apply regardless of whether the drone is flown for recreational or business purposes.
Micro-drones (Under 250 grams)
Micro-drones, weighing less than 250g (for example DJI Mini 4), are exempt from registration and pilot certification requirements. However, pilots must not operate them in a reckless or negligent manner.
Basic Operations
Basic drone operations in Canada are defined by these criteria: flying in uncontrolled airspace, staying over 30 meters away from bystanders, avoiding flying over them, and maintaining a distance from airports and heliports. Not meeting the criteria classifies the operation as advanced.
Advanced Operations
Advanced drone operations is defined by the need to fly in controlled airspace, over bystanders, within 30 meters of bystanders, less than 3 nautical miles from a certified airport or military aerodrome, or less than 1 nautical mile from a certified heliport.
Special Flight Operations Certificate (SFOC)
Foreign pilots looking to fly drones in Canada will need an SFOC.
An SFOC is necessary for drone operations exceeding advanced certification limits, such as flying drones over 25kg, beyond visual line of sight, or above 400 feet.

Do I need my own drone for training?
Yes, you must bring your own equipment to training. This ensures you get well acquainted with the equipment you will be operating.
We do not provide rentals for training.
What location do you offer training?
Our online courses can be accessed from any location with internet connectivity.
However, in-person training and flight reviews are exclusively conducted at our training facility in Langley, BC.
For special circumstances, such as large group training, we can arrange to travel across Canada. Please contact us for more details.
I don't see the training I need

What times do you offer training?
We offer in-person training or flight reviews during weekdays.
Do you offer refunds on training?
Our online course is fully refundable if you have not completed more than 30% of the content.
Flight review and in-person training is non-refundable.
Do I need my Pilot Certificate for training?
You should obtain your Basic Pilot certificate at minimum before booking in-person training with us.
How long will I have access to my training?
You have 1 year of access to our online training courses.
In-person training and flight review training session credits will expire after 6 months.
