How long does it take to get your Drone pilot certificate?

A general guideline on the time it takes to get your RPAS Advanced Pilot certificate:

Ground school - expect to study and make notes for a minimum of 4-8 hours.

Transport Canada Advanced exam - you have 1 hour to complete the exam with 50 multiple choice questions. You will get an instant fail or pass result.

Flight review prep - 1 hour to review the course material and 2-4 hours of prepping the required documents.

Flight review - 45 minutes on site with your reviewer, a Pilot certificate will be emailed (if you pass) usually within 24 hours or as soon as the reviewer puts your information into the Transport Canada portal. 

This timeline will vary depending on your learning capabilities. In conclusion, you could get your Advanced certificate within a couple of days.

Keep in mind that there is a 24 hour period before you can retake the TC Advanced exam or Flight review if you fail. Flight review bookings are also dependant on availability and weather conditions on the day of.

 

Basic pilot certificate

Study material - the BASIC exam questions are generally common sense and does not require intensive studying. We recommend you review the rules and regulations on the Transport Canada drone portal to ensure success.

Basic exam - you have 90 minutes to go through 35 multiple choice questions.
