Fundamentals of SLAM LiDAR
Fundamentals of SLAM LiDAR equips field teams with the skills to capture and manage reliable point cloud data from handheld LiDAR sensors, turning a new SLAM purchase into a tool the whole crew can actually use.
- Get productive on your SLAM sensor faster, without leaning on a printed manual or repeat demo calls
- Learn the same LiDAR fundamentals taught in our aerial courses, applied specifically to handheld scanning
- Build confidence in mission planning, basic processing, data management, and deliverables
- Applicable across forestry, mining, civil, and construction handheld mapping work

Overview and Who It's For
Most of our LiDAR training has focused on aerial sensors. Fundamentals of SLAM LiDAR brings the same standard of training to handheld SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) units, covering LiDAR theory, mission planning, basic processing, data management, and deliverables, specific to handheld hardware rather than aircraft.
This course is built for anyone adopting a SLAM sensor or exploring whether it fits their work. It's often paired with a SLAM sensor purchase, acting as a more thorough introduction to the equipment than a manual on its own can offer. It also works as a standalone primer for teams still evaluating SLAM.
The material was developed after repeated demo requests around SLAM sensors surfaced common questions and knowledge gaps across clients. Rather than repeat the same walkthrough demo by demo, that content has been built into a structured, distributable course.
Primary verticals: Forestry and Environmental, Mining and Aggregate, Civil and Power. Built as an all purpose course, so it applies to any team running handheld SLAM scanning.

FAQs
Is this course only for people who've purchased a SLAM sensor?
No. While it pairs well with a new SLAM purchase, it also works as a standalone introduction for anyone evaluating SLAM adoption.
Do I need experience with aerial LiDAR first?
No. The course covers the same fundamentals as our aerial LiDAR training, built specifically around handheld SLAM sensors.
Which industries is this course relevant to?
It was developed with forestry work in mind, particularly understory scanning, but applies to any industry using handheld SLAM scanners, including mining, construction, and civil.
