Yes. Transport Canada requires applicants for a Pilot Certificate – Level 1 Complex Operations to complete at least 20 hours of RPAS ground school instruction through a flight school before progressing through the remaining certification requirements.

Do I need to pass the Advanced Operations exam first?
Yes. Transport Canada requires applicants to have passed the Advanced Operations Online Exam before taking the Level 1 Complex Online Exam. An Advanced Pilot Certificate itself is not required before progressing through the Level 1 Complex pathway.

Does this course include the Transport Canada Level 1 Complex Online Exam?
No. This course provides the required ground school and prepares you for the Level 1 Complex Online Exam. The Transport Canada exam is separate and must be completed through the Drone Management Portal.
