At Candrone Demo Day 2025, the future of aerial and mobile LiDAR mapping took center stage as Cody McColl of GreenValley International introduced three of their most advanced systems: the LiAir H600, the LiGrip O2 Lite, and the LiAir X4 with handheld kit. Interviewed by Jacky Heshi, Cody walked us through how these tools are transforming forestry, construction, surveying, and power line inspection with industry-leading technology and software integration.
LiAir H600: High-Performance Forestry Mapping
The LiAir H600 is GreenValley’s latest LiDAR system, designed for powerful canopy penetration and long-range scanning. Built for forestry professionals, the H600 features ultimate waveform LiDAR with up to seven returns, enabling detailed mapping through dense forest canopies. It can be flown up to 750 meters (optimal around 200m) and delivers 100,000 to 550,000 points per second, offering wide-area coverage in a single battery cycle—twice the efficiency of DJI’s L2, as Cody explained.
This makes it ideal for forest management, conservation, and logging operations that need high-detail ground-level data beneath thick vegetation.
Software Synergy: LiDAR360 for Forestry Insights
GreenValley pairs its hardware with powerful software—LiDAR360—which was originally built with forestry applications in mind. This integration allows users to perform single-click analyses to generate comprehensive reports including:
-
Tree count and height
-
Crown area and volume
-
Individual tree segmentation
-
Regression analysis for health and growth tracking
With these capabilities, LiAir H600 users can transition from data collection to actionable insights—perfect for anyone needing accurate forest structure data for resource management or environmental planning.
LiGrip O2 Lite: Portable Precision with Visual SLAM
Next up, Cody introduced the LiGrip O2 Lite, a compact mobile scanning system ideal for construction, architectural modeling, and survey work. What sets it apart is its dual 26MP cameras that capture panoramic 360° imagery, paired with GNSS/RTK and advanced visual SLAM.
Unlike traditional SLAM, which struggles in featureless environments, the O2 Lite leverages visual input from its cameras to maintain positional accuracy even in flat, textureless areas. This ensures clean data collection in locations where other mobile mapping tools fail.
It delivers ±2 cm accuracy at 40 meters, making it ideal for:
-
As-built documentation
-
Mesh modeling
-
3D Gaussian splatting for digital twin creation
Whether walking a site or scanning indoors, the LiGrip O2 Lite offers the flexibility needed for dynamic environments.
LiAir X4 + Handheld Kit: All-in-One for Air and Ground
Finally, Cody introduced the LiAir X4 with handheld kit, a versatile system designed to serve both aerial and terrestrial scanning needs. Built with a UAV-mounted INS LiDAR sensor, the kit enables users to detach and walk the unit through structures, canopies, or interior environments—perfect for bridging gaps in data between aerial and ground-level scans.
The X4 truly shines in power line inspection. Paired with an M300 or M350, it brings Level 4 autonomy, complete with:
-
Autonomous power line following
-
Obstacle-aware flight, capable of flying over or under crossing lines
-
Upward-facing sensors to monitor full surroundings
-
Live point cloud streaming, colorized with RGB and FPV camera feeds
With LivePlan software, the system can mark tower locations, identify danger points, and generate KML files for easy integration into GreenValley’s LiPowerline analysis tool. This level of autonomy and intelligence is a game-changer for utility companies performing inspections in complex, dangerous environments.
Final Thoughts
From long-range forestry scans to autonomous power line mapping and precise mobile modeling, GreenValley International is pushing the boundaries of what LiDAR can do. Their hardware is adaptable, their software is purpose-built, and their integration with DJI platforms ensures seamless operation across aerial and ground-based workflows.
Whether you’re managing a forest, building a digital twin of a site, or inspecting utility infrastructure, GreenValley’s tools offer the flexibility and precision you need to get the job done right.
