Emlid Reach RS2+ Multi-Band RTK GNSS Receiver
The Emlid Reach RS2+ brings multi-band RTK and PPK positioning to surveying, mapping, and drone ground control workflows, enabling field teams to achieve centimetre-level accuracy across distances up to 60 km -- with or without a cellular network.
- RTK fix in approximately 5 seconds, 7mm horizontal accuracy -- Multi-band L1/L2 tracking across GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou delivers a fast, reliable fixed solution that holds up in demanding field conditions and at extended baseline distances.
- Built-in LTE modem and 868/915 MHz LoRa radio -- no external hardware needed -- Connect to an NTRIP correction service via cellular or link base and rover directly via the integrated LoRa radio at up to 8 km, all from a single unit with no dongles or external radios.
- 22 hours on a single charge, IP67 rated -- A full field day and more on one LiFePO4 battery charge, in a dustproof and submersible enclosure rated from -20 to +65°C -- covering the full range of Canadian operating environments.
- PPK, RTK, and PPP in one receiver -- Supports real-time RTK corrections, post-processed PPK via RINEX logging, and CSRS-PPP for network-independent centimetre accuracy in areas without RTK infrastructure -- including remote forestry and mining sites.
Overview and Who It's For
The Emlid Reach RS2+ is a professional multi-band RTK GNSS receiver used as a base station, rover, or both in precision positioning workflows. It tracks GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou across L1/L2 frequencies through a 184-channel u-blox receiver, and supports RTK, PPK, and PPP positioning modes -- giving field teams options for real-time correction, post-processed accuracy, and network-independent results anywhere in Canada.
The built-in LTE modem with global band support connects to NTRIP correction services including Natural Resources Canada's CSRS network. The integrated LoRa radio at 868/915 MHz allows direct base-to-rover operation at up to 8 km without cellular coverage -- critical for remote forestry, mining, and survey work where LTE is unavailable. Both can be used in the same deployment without additional hardware.
For drone mapping and LiDAR workflows, the RS2+ functions as a ground control and base station unit alongside Matrice M350 RTK, M400, and Mavic 3 Enterprise series platforms. RINEX logs from the RS2+ are fully compatible with CSRS-PPP and standard PPK post-processing in Emlid Studio and other industry tools.
Best suited for:
- Surveying and Mapping -- Land surveys, boundary demarcation, construction control, and GCP collection for photogrammetry and LiDAR missions
- Forestry and Environmental -- Remote site positioning, boundary work, and drone mapping ground control in areas with limited cellular coverage
- Mining -- Geospatial control points, haul road mapping, and volumetric survey reference for active and exploration sites
- First Nations and Indigenous Communities -- Land use mapping, treaty boundary work, and resource management ground control

Training and Certification
No Transport Canada RPAS certification is required to operate the Reach RS2+ as a ground-based GNSS receiver.
For teams integrating the RS2+ into drone mapping or LiDAR ground control workflows, Transport Canada RPAS certification requirements apply to the aircraft being flown. Candrone Academy offers online ground school and exam prep for pilots looking to get certified or upgrade to Advanced.
For teams deploying in public safety or professional contexts, Advanced RPAS Certification unlocks operations near people and in controlled airspace commonly required for municipal, SAR, and emergency services use.
FAQs
Can the RS2+ be used as both a base station and a rover? Yes. The RS2+ operates in either mode depending on configuration in the Emlid Flow app. Many teams run one RS2+ as a base and a second as a rover, or use a single unit as a rover connected to an NTRIP correction service via the built-in LTE modem.
Do I need a SIM card? Only if you want to use NTRIP corrections via LTE. The RS2+ can also operate in base-rover mode using its built-in LoRa radio at up to 8 km with no SIM required. Wi-Fi is also available for local network access.
How does it integrate with drone mapping workflows? The RS2+ is typically deployed as a base station during drone mapping and LiDAR missions. Raw GNSS data logged in RINEX format from the base unit is used in PPK post-processing alongside the drone's onboard GNSS log, improving georeferencing accuracy. It pairs with platforms including the Matrice M350 RTK and M400, and payloads such as the Zenmuse L2 and L3.
Is it compatible with Natural Resources Canada's CSRS-PPP service? Yes. RINEX logs from the RS2+ are compatible with CSRS-PPP, allowing Canadian operators to achieve centimetre-level post-processed accuracy using the Government of Canada's free PPP correction service -- useful in remote areas where RTK networks do not reach.
What software is needed? The Emlid Flow mobile app for field data collection is free on iOS and Android. Emlid Studio for PPK post-processing is also free. Emlid Flow 360 for cloud-based project management is available on a subscription basis -- confirm current availability with our team.
